Primaquine is the only available drug for preventing relapse of malaria. It has a major role in reducing malaria transmission especially in eliminating Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Primaquine is an 8-amino-quinoline compound that eliminates tissue infection (exoerythrocytic) and therefore, prevents the development of the blood forms (erythrocytic) forms of the parasite which are responsible for relapses in vivax malaria. It is also active against gametocytes of Plasmodium falciparum. The combination of both botanicals, artesunate and voracin makes this Malaria Treatment very effective and safe.
